Wireless networking, or Wi-Fi is expanding. Notebooks are coming with wireless connections build-in. Families are buying more than one computer and using wireless routers for networking. According to one survey 52% of households with computers are using wireless to link them. Mostly because it is easier than trying to run Ethernet wire through the walls and ceiling. For me it is fear of my wife catching me drill holes in the wall. Yet surveys have shown over half of the people do not bother setting up any security setting for it. For most it is because it is just to cumbersome. For others they feel there is no need. “There is nothing on it worth stealing.” Finally there are those who do not even know it is available. A friend of mine just brought her son a notebook computer and they setup a wireless network so both could use get Internet connection. When I asked her if it was secure she said “I guess so, why?”

I once saw a demo by Linksys at the Pasadena Computer User Group of how to setup a wireless network. There were so many steps shown I’m sure even after being shown how to do it, people were not going to bother. I think I dozed off myself.

Wi-Fi defense from OTO Software just could not be easier. I put the CD in, ran the install, set it up, and then thought “I wonder if I should look at the instructions.” Actually there is no instructions other than - put in the CD and start the installation. It is just so simple to use, if you have any experience with computers you can probably figure it out. The 802.11b wireless networking signal will typically go out about 100 feet or more with no interference. You know those pesky walls just keep getting in the way and shortening the distance it can go. Well the manufacturers have an answer for that in the new devices that are out. The signal on new 802.11g is suppose to be up to 300 feet. The new 802.11n in prerelease by Belkin and others have a range of up to 400 feet.

I am using the new D-Link DWL-2100AP – Access Point, with the D-Link DWL-G650 Cardbus Adapter. These are the new 802.11g AirPlusXtreemeG.™ Where my Belkin 80.211b access point could get me to the other side of the house, this one pumps up the signal. I took my notebook in my car and even parked across the street I could get a signal.

It scans for networks roughly every second and logs all the networks it runs into--including the real SSIDs, the AP's MAC address, the best signal-to-noise ratio encountered, and the time you crossed into the network's space. Most war drives do it for kicks but some have more harmful intentions. It is more than just sharing the bandwidth it will slow your performance.

What people may not understand is that if someone else starts using your network to browse wherever they want on the Internet, it's going to come back to your IP address. In one instance, a Los Angeles man pleaded guilty to distributing pornography spam e-mails. He sent them out using other people's Wi-Fi connections, which he accessed from inside his car. In 2003, a man in Toronto was arrested for downloading child pornography using other people's unsecured wireless networks. Wi-Fi Scan of devices

Once Wi-Fi defense is installed it scans your network and presents to you a list of devices (computers) and ask you if they are Friend, Foe, or Unknown. It gives you their IP address, MAC address, Net Name, and manufacturer. From that information you can figure out if they are Friend or Foe to allow them on the network. If Unknown you certainly don’t want them. If someone need tries to piggy-back onto your signal a pop-up window will alert you and ask you if they are Friend, Foe, or Unknown. It worked on both my 802.11g and b cards. If you find in the future you want to change the classification of visitor (you were mistaken, or they just ticked you off) you can edit the visitor or delete them from the list.

Clicking on Wireless Security gives you options for Notification, that will have it tell you when someone new is scanned on the network. The Security tab lets you enable router security. Wi-Fi Defense is truly just a scanning programwhich will tell you when someone is accessing your network, until you enable the router security. I change my setting for my main computerWi-Fi defense options menu from friend to foe. It only change the color setting but, did not kick it off. If you are using a wireless access point in conjunction with a router (two separate pieces of equipment), make sure you put the address of your access point into the Access Point Address field on the Network tab. Once security is enabled if you need to add new visitors (friends) then you can click on Add Friend To Network wizard.

You can run reports on visitors to see when they came on and how long they were there. Network report shows the MAC address, when they were first there and the amount of time on the network. Visitors will be listed in one of two groups, either Connected or Not Connected. The Vulnerability Report shows a chart of how many hours each day a foe was detected on your network in the time period you select.

Here are three very quick and easy methods to retrieve someones ip.

Obtaining an IP from MSN Messenger.
----------------------------------------

Firstly we learn the method used by most people when they want to get
someone elses IP Address.

Step 1 - Start MSN Messenger and login as yourself.

Step 2 - Hit your "Start" button and click run. Type into the white box
"Command" (without the quotation marks)

Step 3 - Type in "Netstat -N" (without the quotation marks) into the
black box and hit enter.

Step 4 - Start a conversation with your 'victim' and send them a file.
Once they accept the file Hit your "Start" button and click run. Type
into the white box "Command" (without the quotation marks) and Type in "Netstat -N"
(without the quotation marks) into the black box and hit enter.

Step 5 - Look in the middle column of both your MS Dos boxes and look
in the newer wndow for the IP address that has magically appeared in
the middle column. This is your victim's IP Address.

Obtaining an IP from an E-Mail.

Ok, lets say the person does not use MSN Messenger (can't blame them)
we can get an IP address from most E-Mail address. In this example we
shall use Outlook Express to view the E-Mails in.

Step 1 - Load Outlok express and left click on an E-Mail that was sent
from your 'victim'

Step 2 - Right click this E-Mail and click the "Properties" button.

Step 3 - Now Click on the tab displaying as it's text "Details" and
look for the buttom saying "Message Source", once found (not hard) click it.

Step 4 - Look in all the jargon for something like "X-Originating-IP: "
with a number after the colon. This number is the sender's IP Address.

Step 5 - If you cannot find "X-Originating-IP: " then do not worry.
Look for instead "Received:", and go along this string untill you come
to a nuber in brackets, this however maybe an IP but it might not be
the IP address of the 'victim', infact if they sent the E-Mail from a
we E-Mail service (like hotmail.com) then chances are it is not their
IP address.

If you have physical access to a computer then getting the IP address
is simple.

Step 1 - Click the "Start" button and hit "Run". Type in "Command" and
hit enter.

Step 2 - Type in "ipconfig" OR "winipcfg" and hit enter now look for
where it says "IP Address:", next to this is the IP of the computer you
are using.

Backup First
( Run ) type ( regedit ) press ( OK ).

1- Go To ( HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREKasperskyLabAVP6Data ) & right click on ( Data ) & choose ( Permissions ).

2- Choose ( Advanced ) From The ( Permissions For Data ) ... a new window will open.

3- On ( Advanced Security Settings for Data ) window .. look for ( Inherit from parent ... ) click on the nike or check mark to remove or uncheck it.

4- After removing the check or nike mark u will get a new message .. choose ( Remove ).

5- On ( Advanced Security Settings for Data ) click on ( Apply ).

6- Choose ( Yes ) for the new message that u will get.

7- Press ( OK ) on ( Advanced Security Settings for Data ).

8- Press ( OK ) on ( Permissions For Data ).

9- Exit KasperSky & restart it again.

- The Kaspersky icon will be GRAY but it is working perfect.

PROXY TUTORIAL (Not my work)

So, first of all you will need thousands of unchecked proxies because after you check them for PlanetLabs, Anonymity etc, you will be left with only a few thousand or may be hundreds. To start off, you need a proxy leeching program. I would recommend Forum Proxy Leecher v1.07 as a crack is available for this paid software. You can download this from the bottom of this post.

Setting up the Software

After you install it, open the install folder. Replace the forumlist.txt file with the one in my rar file. Then open Bleach (it will be in FPL's install forum itself). Click on 'Advanced Setting' and in ProxyJudge field, replace the URL with this

Use Max Thread: 80 (Decrease it if you have a slow connection) and use 'Strict Mode'. Click OK.

Leeching/Filtering Proxies
Now, you have correctly set up FPL. Now open FPL and click the 'Start Leeching' button (Right Arrow). You will get thousands of proxies now. But 90% of them would be dead. You need to filter them correctly. After all the sites have been leeched for proxies, Bleach will automatically run. Let it scan the proxies which will take some time. After it has scanned all the proxies you will end up with L1 proxies, L2 proxies and L3 proxies. According to me, all L1+L2+L3 can be used for brute-forcing. But its all your choice. You can use L1+L2 only as well.

But filtering has not been done yet. You also need to remove PlanetLab/Codeen proxies. For this you will need Charon. You can get it in my rar File as well. Extract it. Run Charon and click 'Filter Options'. Check PlanetLab-2.ini and ports.ini. Now Open the Proxy list file and let Charon scan the proxies again. After the process is completed, click Filter List>Filter Dodgy/Duplicates/Gateways. Now your list is free of PlanetLabs and Bad Proxies. Now you can save it.

You can also check them for anonymity if you want only Anonymous ones. For this click CheckProxies>Check anonymity of all proxies. After it is done, you will end up with only Anonymous Proxies. Save it.

You might think that it is a time consuming task. But believe me, it is not. People say that it is very difficult to get proxies now-a-days, but its not true. This process doesnt take more than half an hour if you get a good connection speed.

Historically, computers have been better at playing games where all information is already on the board, such as chess. With poker, players have to make judgments based on incomplete information. Getting artificial intelligence to do that well is a big step, since real life problems are generally more like poker than like chess.
